Yes, I closed my “real” business after nine years of running it (“real” as in a brick and mortar building, because apparently some people out there right now don’t realize that I’m still very much in business).
Yes, I owned an amazing fitness boutique, which housed a close-knit community of beautiful, connected souls, where we danced and played and got our Zen on too.
Yes, after almost twenty-three years in the traditional Health Fitness Industry, literally jumping up and down for a living, I chose to walk away from it all.
No more big title.
No more award-winning classes and training.
No more shouldering of the responsibilities of managing a staff of over 20 people.
No more waking up at 3:45 AM to get to Boot Camp on time.
No more 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM split-shifts.
After years and years and YEARS of literally being on auto-pilot, with a highly predictable routine, everything changed in an instant.
I got through the last two months in my studio with my head on straight. I work well under pressure. I handled the gazillion unexpected things that popped up with closing a business, with as much grace and integrity as I could (I swear, closing my studio was harder than opening it).
Within two-weeks of locking the big glass door to what is now my past, one last time, parts of me began to crumble.
I was losing definition (and no, not muscular definition, but it’s a fun play on words!) … I didn’t know what to call myself anymore. I wasn’t “President, CEO and Director of Operations” of Core Fitness, Inc. any longer.
Who am I now?
I’m not a long list of titles.
And I really never even was.
But I identified with these titles, and to throw them off of me was one of the scariest things I’ve ever done in my life.
One of the best!
My titles were safe.
Hi, my name is Joy and I am a … what the Hell am I anyway?! What “are” any of us really?!
I am just me.
I am Joy, and I am joy.
I am STILL a President and CEO.
I am a writer.
I am a speaker.
I am a teacher.
I am a leader.
I am an athlete, runner, dancer and yogini.
I am an artist.
And I am also everything that is the polar opposite to all of the above.
Sometimes I don’t feel like writing or running, so at that moment, I’m not a writer or a runner.
See what I mean?!
But there is one thing I’m sure of … I’m always doing my best to vibrate at love or above.
I am truly SO happy!
Well, most of the time … even a girl named “Joy” has her moments
Pure Joy, and pure joy.
I can’t even express in words how happy and free I feel now, but during that short (very short) period of time that quickly followed me closing my doors, I was a HOT MESS. I’m not gonna lie, I felt like I was dying (legit, I even said that to my boyfriend). And I wrote about my experience right here, if you want to read more, but I digress.
My message for you today, is this:
If you are unhappy where you are …
If you know in your heart that you are meant for more in this life …
If you feel that you have a greater purpose than the one you’re living …
If you look forward to “one day” when things will be better …
If you are done with your titles …
DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
The time is NOW, my friends. Your life is happening NOW!
Even if you believe in reincarnation, you’ve only got THIS life to live it as you are right now.
So, I took the plunge. I closed up shop and moved into the online space focused on sharing a refreshed message. It still encompasses all of what I’ve always believed, but now I’m sharing it with the world in a new way. I’m redefining “fitness” because it’s not all about the physical aspect … it’s not all about the body! You can and SHOULD be fit in every area of your life! I believe that there are four cornerstones of fitness:
When you have these four cornerstones in place, when you are giving each of these areas of your life the respect and attention that they deserve, life just starts clipping along for a smooth and enjoyable ride! There is a beautiful balance to be had here, my friends, and it can be easily found.
When I chose to begin sharing my true purpose and passion with the world, so much unfolded before my eyes, it was almost surreal.
I chose me, and continue to do so every day! Self-care is KEY in creating the happiest, healthiest, most successful version of YOU, and I’m gettin’ work DONE.
I’m sharing my message with the world every day and in many different ways. From using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and now my NEW FAVE Periscope @JoyFitNation!), to writing my amazing Tribe of Awesomeness on the reg, to simply chatting with (or even just smiling at) strangers along my path, I am spreading my message as far and wide as I can, extending my reach, so that the world can hear my truth, to discover their own.
I am here to tell you that it’s never too late, you are never too old, and you are enough right now, EXACTLY the way you are, to start living the dream … that purpose, that passion that we all hold deep within.
We all have one, ya know … don’t pretend that you don’t. If you’re not living a life that you feel perfectly, and fully aligned with, then you’re just not living. So let’s do something about that shall we?
Today, just do ONE THING to get yourself on track and moving forward into the life you are truly destined to live. Today, just do ONE THING towards finding PURE JOY in your life. How about researching your dream location to live, or looking into that European tour that always stirs you up inside, or maybe just get up and move your body in a way that you love, and take one step closer toward your dream bod?
Because, quite honestly, none of us are guaranteed a tomorrow, and taking action steps today will make you feel lighter, brighter, happier, and REALISTICALLY OPTIMISTIC, because you’re on your way to rockin’ your life, like only YOU can!
And if you nodded your head about the “dream bod” thing? I’ve got something for ya … just click right here!
